“NORTH” BY AMURRI LAUREN

at Huddle in Philadelphia from June 29 - July 3, 2021

[New York, NY and Philadelphia, PA]

Amurri Lauren, a 33-year old celebrity and fine art photographer from North Philadelphia, has captured creative icons from Dapper Dan, Beyoncé and Nas, to Takashi Murakami and Hebru Brantley. On Saturday, June 29th, her Philadelphia-focused photo exhibition "North,” will open at Huddle [338 Brown Street, Phila.].

Vacillating between two worlds “on a regular day,” Amurri can be found traveling between Manhattan and Philly, working as the lens behind Insta-celeb jeweler Greg Yuna’s infamous and always-viral street shoots with famed clients; on-call to photograph some of today’s top-of-the-charts entertainers; and, on her way home, possibly swinging by the real Black horsemen played by Idris Elba and co in Netflix’s “Concrete Cowboys.” Yes, seriously - just look at her Instagram @Artmurri.

Featuring local subjects and neighbors, grounded by Black history and commentary on socio-politics and racial dynamics, "North," endeavors to show pandemic as both a static and evolutionary time for all.  “Like most creatives from Philadelphia, I used to think I would only be successful if I ‘made it’ in New York. But my peers here are so talented, and we have so much to share about and with the people here in Philly. We want to make work that is about our city, share it in our city, draw in others to our city to see it, build community, and truly benefit our neighbors and each other,” Amurri said.

Amurri released her first book, "Genuine," in 2019 following her debut NYC solo exhibition, "SeeSaw," both of which sold out. In addition to exhibiting “North,” Amurri will also release a limited edition apparel series featuring works from the show, to benefit The Princess Steppers and Imperial Drummers.
